This former Prime Minister has been an MP from Amethi seat for four consecutive times, that is why it is called the stronghold of the Gandhi family

Counting of votes has been done on most of the seats for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Election Commission has also declared the names of the winners on many seats. One of these is the seat of Amethi. Where BJP leader Smriti Irani has got 3 lakh 40 thousand 693 votes this time. Whereas Kishori Lal Sharma has won with 4 lakh 86 thousand 166 votes. Today we will tell you why Amethi is called the stronghold of Congress.

Amethi seat

The question arises that how has Amethi become the stronghold of the Congress party? To know the answer to this, you have to know the history of Amethi seat. It is worth noting that the first Lok Sabha election in Amethi was held in 1967. Then Vidya Dhar Bajpai of Congress had won from here. After this, Ravindra Pratap Singh of Janata Party won the Amethi seat in 1977. Senior Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi won the Amethi seat in 1980. However, a few months after the victory, Sanjay Gandhi died in a plane crash. Due to which a by-election had to be held in 1981, in which Sanjay Gandhi’s brother Rajiv Gandhi won. After this, Rajiv Gandhi also won from Amethi in the 1984 and 1989 Lok Sabha elections. Although in 1984, Sanjay Gandhi’s wife Maneka Gandhi contested against Rajiv Gandhi as an independent candidate, but she got only 50,163 votes. Whereas Rajiv Gandhi won with 3,65,041 votes.

Amethi seat is the seat of the Congress family

Let us tell you that in the 1991 elections, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated a few days after voting in Amethi. But when the votes were counted in June 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was declared the winner after his death. But the Election Commission again held a by-election on this seat. Which was won by Satish Sharma of Congress. Satish Sharma had also won the 1996 elections. In 1998, BJP’s Sanjay Singh won here.

The seat came to the Gandhi family

In 1999, Sonia Gandhi was elected MP from Amethi. After Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi started his political career from Amethi. Rahul Gandhi was elected MP for the first time from Amethi in the year 2004. After this, he won the 2009 and 2014 elections from here. But in 2019, Smriti Irani from BJP won.

Now again the seat is with the Congress family

2024 In the Lok Sabha elections, there was no member of the Congress family from Amethi seat. But still why is it being considered a victory of the family. Actually Kishori Lal Sharma is like a family member for the Gandhi family. According to information, when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister, he had involved the youth congress people to promote government schemes. Then Kishori Lal was made the coordinator in Amethi. This is the reason that Kishori Lal has a relationship of more than 40 years with Rae Bareli and Amethi.
